A bit of a mad way to unwind after the end of the Summer term, but some older ones kayaked to an Emsworth pub and then back again! The return journey was magical under a full moon, the water warm as a bath, the company convivial - a smashing way to finish the term!

NEEEAWWW! Scalextric Party - Vroom!!
20 of us were involved in high-speed drama this evening. Feedback from the children we teach indicated that older ones would like to experience less jelly and ice cream and more age-specific activities for their Christmas party this year. We held it at an indoor scalextric track and fun was had by all!

18th September 2011

We visited London today! Our destination was the famous judo club ‘The Budokwai’. Mr Paul Ajala, ex-British champion, could not have been more welcoming, he took a class which was fun and technically superb - thanks Paul and all of the members of the Budokwai for hosting us today. On the return journey we visited the ‘Horniman Museum’, an enjoyable day out to the smokes!

23rd July 2011

We took part in FitBeat, a fun event on Emsworth Park. With our mats in an arena we were able to host three judo classes that members of the public were welcome to partake in too. It was great to be part of such a healthy day, the ‘It’s a Knockout” competition had me using muscles that I didn’t know I had! Thank you all for your support.

On the same day as FitBeat, but in the evening, we hosted our annual Family Barbecue. Thank you again to all who turned up, the evening light revealed fun on the field for those with energy left after the days activities and a relaxed spot for those that wanted to chill.

28th May 2011

Havant Judo Fun Day
Children from three local clubs, including ours, came together for fun and some competition.

New mats! Today is the first day using our new mats! We combined them with the old ones and some borrowed for this collaborative event. We have made this phase 1, the first part of our mat purchase - which gives us a working mat area.
Phase 2 is to extend, with a future purchase, our mat to a more useful size. Work is going on in the background to try to achieve this.
It was important for us to try to achieve this purchase of several thousand pounds worth of equipment to do so without having to raise our fees. In being able to do so we are indebted to Havant Borough Council, the Hampshire Playing Fields Association and an anonymous donor, thank you all VERY MUCH.

31st October 2010

On Saturday 31st October a great time was had, as we met with children from Poole and Ryde, Isle of Wight, for a session to cover throws in the grading syllabus. We followed this effort with a sausage and chips supper!
Thanks are due especially to all the coaches and volunteers that helped with everything. Thank you for the food and biscuits donated too!

Going to a different venue, practicing with other children, of different ages and instructors from other clubs, is taking the children out of their comfort zone.

They responded well with good behaviour and great effort during the day. The challenge being of benefit in so many ways, new friendships were started, the lessons learned were more than the techniques being practiced on the day.....

15 October 2010

Percy Sekine R.I.P.
We would not have a club without the inspiration that Mr Sekine provided. His funeral, held on 3 November 2010 was respectfully and well attended by Judo people from far and wide.
His contribution to British judo is huge, click the photo for re-direction to his obituary in the Daily Telegraph. Please see also our club history pages here.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Games - June 2008

The Hampshire Mini Games is a large county event where local authorities enter teams in a variety of sports.
The Games is a fun event aimed at young people who are trying competitive sport for the first time and who are below county standard. We were allocated ten places - all of the children enjoyed the day.

Kangeiko - February 2008

A certificate for the children practicing judo from 7.00am!
Kangeiko is a Japanese idea - that to practise your ‘art’ under arduous conditions, like the heat of the Summer or cold of the Winter is somehow good for you. We practised an Anglicised version: early morning judo followed by bacon rolls and mugs of tea, The children loved it!

Havant Borough Sports Awards - February 2008

The annual Borough Sports Awards were held on 7th February 2008 to celebrate and reward sporting achievements during 2007. Our club was so busy growing that we forgot to nominate any of our members! We were asked to provide a short display for the benefit of delegates and guests.

With the Mayor watching, Mr Pring is flattened by a lovely harai goshi!
The children behaved in an exemplary fashion, worked hard, had fun and showed good character, you may have guessed we were proud of them!

Christmas Party - December 2007

This was a resounding success! Fifty children enjoyed a party with an organised disco and other entertainments laid on by parents. Everyone brought some food, it disappeared as quickly as it was brought in!
